The beauty of scars

Story of decay reflects the beauty of time, slow fleeting "NOW" transforms into "THEN" - sewing several stories together, reflecting a concrete manifestation called life. Scars gift us, the much needed identity, the uniqueness that separates us apart in this monolith called humanity.

Life's vulnerabilities, mistakes and corrective action, process of learning and unlearning is mapped into scars. Observe deeply and we find the scars narrate stories of perseverance amidst the trauma of loss, pain and suffering. A binding light of hope glues these broken pieces together with striking similarity to the Japanese art of Kintsugi. Rebuilt pieces are always more valuable than their virgin past. There is something in the process of breaking and healing that ensues magic. Its akin to the forces of nature lifting us from the abyss to heal and remind that we are nature's special children. Special, because we have been to the depths of despair,  the darkness of existential reasoning and the heights of numbness. In a way, we don't fear mortality, rather for us - it is a gift of liberation.

Fragile souls can only achieve anti-fragility, upon being sucked into the dark abyss of hopelessness. It is there, one finds thyself. A being stares at the world in its darkest form and realizes their relationship with it is temporary. In this temporary relationship lies the meaning of life and the realization of one's insignificance. This insignificance reminds us of the eventuality of existence, we being the result of a cosmic accident, nothing more, nothing less. We are just individual natural constructs giving shape to the collective natural reality. Many individual consciousness combines into a collective consciousness forming reality. This reality check starts to heal us, we find our place in this natural construct and understand our purpose in it.

A scar is much more than torn tissues, ruptured blood vessels, eventually healed with time. It is a symbol of resistance, a path to experienced wisdom and beyond. It adds to an individual's story, the price a human being has to pay for the debt of life. It is the toll of serviced debt, reducing the burden of life. Scars are the reminder to our lonely selves that we have company. The company of bitter pain, the wisdom of forced learning and experienced healing. They are more than friends, for they stay within, guiding us through life, as a preventive mechanism designed uniquely for each one of us. It acts as a shield to our being, not only saving from external hazards but enriching us from within. It is a gift.

The biological process of ageing involves tissue rupture. In a way, the process is self propagating. But, when tissue breaks before time, a healing process naturally comes about, bringing the ruptured tissues together and communicating in a way, that it is premature for us to age at this time. It is not our time to degrade and then starts our upgradation, both physical and spiritual. We gain insights into our own self and find ourselves closer to life's purpose.

Scars add value that can't be read, taught, seen or dreamt-of. It has to be experienced, by - fighting one's own self, re-visiting one's deepest fears and overcoming them. It is the process of self discovery, regrowing the tissue of awareness. It makes a human being special, enlightening his mind and providing him the answers to the meaning of life and existence. Spend time with human beings with scars as they have something valuable to pass on to you. Soak that wisdom, bathe in their sunlight, for they are not in abundance. Only a few could wear it with grace, without finding the need to hide it. Scars are a human being's truth. Let truth guide us all.

Scars set us apart as a survivor. It is a certificate from life itself, a recommendation of sorts. It is life confessing that it could not break us. It tried everything, yet failed. Making us special, better among equals. Scars are beautiful.
